Sisters in Christ

Sometimes you may notice that Christians call each other brothers and sisters in Christ. We all come from the same family tree. Not only was Adam our great, great, great (insert many more "greats" here) grandfather physically, but we all have the same spiritual father who is in heaven. When we were born again, we were born into God's family. We became heirs to his Kingdom.

It is a huge blessing to be a part of God's family. I also feel that it is a gift from God to be able to fellowship and love our brothers and sisters in Christ while we are on Earth. God knows we can't face our battles and tribulations alone and often times God manifests his love for us through our brothers and sisters in Christ.

God commands us to love one another and this is how the world will know we are a part of God's family. Often times I teach my children to love each other and get along with each other. God does the same and gives us this commandment,

"A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." John 13:34-35

How are we to love one another? The Bible says that the Holy Spirit purifies our hearts as we obey God's word and then we are able to love unfeignedly, which also means sincerely. God wants us to love each other fervently. Fervently means "intensity of spirit" and it can burn and glow. That's how deep our love can grow through God who is love.

"Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently" 1 Peter 1:22

And the Bible tells us that when we love our brethren in Christ, it shows that we are saved. This is a gift that we have received from God and not something we are able to find anywhere else in the world. This is God's signature in us and it shows that we are his own.

"Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God." 1 John 4:7

And without this love, it is evident that God is not present in our lives. If we are constantly miserable, angry, bitter and do not love others, then God is not living in our hearts. When God moves in, everything glows, everything shines, and our whole heart smiles in spite of the circumstances. Are you alive, or are you dead?

"We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death." 1 John 3:14

I want to take this time to thank a sister in Christ. At my church, they took some time to honor the people that made an impact in their lives. Those people went above and beyond their duty in their ministry and reached out to help that person in need. SisterLisa has done that for me and my family. She is my interpreter at church and she went above and beyond her duty. She is my mentor, my role model, my dear friend and my beautiful sister in Christ. She is a wonderful example of how a sister in Christ should be unto others and I wanted to recognize her for that. Thank you SisterLisa and we love you very much!

Have you thought about being a brother or a sister in Christ? If you reach out to someone and show them God's love through you, I guarantee you'll change someone's life forever.

Wonderful message! These are the types of messages I enjoy that speak of unity between the brethren and reaching out to help others. Messages of unity and not divide is so critical to write, speak, hear and live in these times. Thank you for the message and God bless you.

What a precious piece you have written. I feel like a group hug is in order. So thankful for God's love shed abroad in our hearts which brings this unity and encouragement. Sisterlisa is such an inspiration to me too. God bless you both!

I don't think I would be here, sitting next to my husband in a beautiful home, if it wasn't for my sisters in Christ. Special thanks to you and Sisterlisa for rescuing me out of the darkness :)

I have had this page open since it was published to comment on!! I think it is a beautifully-written piece. Thank you for sharing your heart on this subject.
I really have hated having friends and even family become far-removed acquaintances, and sometimes that is just the way it must be for a time, but I would much rather live in a spirit of love and peace and just let people be themselves.
The spiritual aspect of this post is overwhelming, and so very important for all of us to get into our hearts.

SisterLisa is such a sweet sister in Christ, and I am so glad that the Lord has seen fit to put her into our lives. What a great photo!
Love to you all! I agree with Angie: Time for a group hug! I'm in!
